HIROKI SUEZAKI is a Japanese lacquer art restorer with over 50 years of experience preserving cultural heritage through traditional Edo-period lacquer restoration techniques. His work spans cultural properties, temples, ceramics, lacquerware, and antiques, with lectures and restoration initiatives across Europe and Japan.

HIROKI SUEZAKI is a renowned Japanese lacquer art restorer who has dedicated more than 50 years to preserving cultural heritage through traditional Edo-period lacquer restoration techniques. His expertise covers the restoration of shrines, temples, Buddhist statues, ceramics, lacquerware, antiques, and other important cultural properties.
Recognized internationally, he has appeared on BBC and NHK World and has delivered lectures in Vatican City, Italy, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. In 2022, he was invited by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to lecture at the Benedict XVI Hall in Vatican City.
In 2024, he launched a specialized lacquer art restoration course in Venice, bringing together restoration experts from across Italy to help preserve valuable Japanese lacquer artworks held overseas.
Beyond restoration, HIROKI teaches classical kintsugi in Kyoto and Tokyo, sharing the beauty of natural materials and traditional craftsmanship with wider audiences. Through his corporate and nonprofit initiatives, he actively supports cultural preservation and the development of future generations of artisans.
